Cycling: The Australians racing the 2024 mens Tour de France

This Saturday marks the beginning of the highly anticipated Tour de France, bringing three weeks of thrilling cycling action. The race starts in Florence and ends in Nice, with a unique time trial finish due to the Paris Olympics. Among the competitive field, six Australians are set to participate, each with their own objectives: 


Jai Hindley 

Team: BORA–hansgrohe 

Notable: 2022 Giro d’Italia winner, focusing on supporting teammate Primož Roglič. 

 

Michael Matthews 

Team: Jayco-AlUla 

Achievements: Four Tour de France stage wins, aiming for more victories in hilly stages. 

 

Chris Harper 

Team: Team Jayco AlUla 

Role: Supporting Simon Yates for a GC podium, with a history of being a loyal domestique. 

 

Luke Durbridge 

Team: Team Jayco AlUla 

Experience: 10th Tour de France appearance, known for working tirelessly to position teammates well. 

 

Jack Haig 

Team: Bahrain Victorious 

Focus: Supporting Santiago Buitrago in the mountains as a co-leader. 

 

Jarrad Drizners 

Team: Lotto Dstny 

Debut: Making his Tour de France debut, playing a crucial lead-out role for Arnaud De Lie.
