Athletics: Big moments and moves in Australian Athletics ahead of Paris

Australia's Olympic hopefuls delivered impressive performances across various track and field events over the weekend as they pursued last-minute qualifying opportunities for the Paris Olympics. Notable achievements included 19-year-old Peyton Craig's remarkable 800m victory, marking a new personal best and his third Australian Under 20 record this season. His teammate, Bendere Oboya, also shone with a strong 800m victory, further bolstering her Olympic consideration. 


In women's events, Jenny Blundell achieved a significant milestone by breaking the 15-minute barrier in the 5000m event, while hurdler Alanah Yukich demonstrated strong form with consistent performances across multiple competitions. Tori West showcased determination in the heptathlon, and sprinters Mia Gross and Sam Geddes dazzled with standout results in their respective events. 


The weekend also witnessed outstanding jumps from Desleigh Owusu and Aiden Hinson in the triple jump, as well as Nash Lowis setting a personal best in the javelin throw. Noteworthy accomplishments extended to a range of athletes competing in various disciplines, each striving to secure their spots for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
