The New Zealand SailGP Team skippered by Peter Burling, known as the Black Foils, secured a significant victory in the penultimate regatta of Season 4 in SailGP held in New York. The Kiwis emerged victorious, with Canada coming in second and Great Britain in third place.
During the Final race, the Kiwis demonstrated a strong performance, taking the lead early on and maintaining it throughout the race. Despite a competitive start by all boats, the New Zealand team managed to secure a substantial lead, finishing ahead by over 300 metres or 21 seconds from Canada, with Great Britain following 32 seconds behind.
Throughout the event, teams like France and Australia also showcased their skills, with France making a bold start in Race 3 and Canada claiming victory in Race 4. However, it was New Zealand, Canada, and Great Britain who progressed to the final winner-takes-all race.
Peter Burling expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, viewing the win as a "confidence booster" ahead of the upcoming Grand Final where a significant prize of USD $2 million awaits the victor. The competitive spirit and impressive performances of the teams set the stage for an exciting conclusion to Season 4 of SailGP.
